blog: A blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog .Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

ning: Ning is an online platform for users to create their own social websites and social networks. Ning hopes to compete with large social sites like MySpace and Facebook, by appealing to users who want to create networks around specific interests or have limited technical skills. The unique feature of Ning is that anyone can create their own custom social network for a particular topic or need, catering to specific audiences.

podcast: A podcast is a series of digital-media files which are distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media playerscomputers. The term podcast, like broadcast, can refer either to the series of content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also called and podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

RSS: RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel") contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays. (Examples: GoogleReader, Bloglines, MyYahoo)

web-based: A web-based application is one that is accessed by a web browser. Not software is actually installed on your computer. (Examples: SchoolCenter, Infinite Campus, Diigo)

web browser: A web browser is a software application that allows you access and interact with the Internet. (Examples: Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer)

wiki: A wiki is a collection of web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. (Examples: Wikispaces, PBWiki, Wikipedia)
